Core classes are taught on site by DODDS certified teachers. There is a staff of about 30 teachers.
Elementary grades are taught by one core teacher with multiple "specials." These include art, PE, music and Host Nation cultural studies.
Menwith follows the DODDS high school/middle school calendar of an eight block, two day schedule, with one seminar period. Sixth, seventh and eighth graders make up the middle school; they receive different privileges. 5th, 6th, and 7th graders share one lunch period and the 8th graders go to the High School lunch. All high schoolers are allowed to go off campus for lunch. High school students must follow the DODDS graduation requirements.
With less than one hundred students in the high school, there is oftentimes not enough demand for certain classes. Menwith offers several distance learning (DL) classes available to all high school students. These include:
Menwith Hill follows the DODDS Gifted Ed requirements.
Menwith Hill is the home of the Mustangs. The teams play D-III Football (Boys), Soccer (Boys, Girls), Basketball (Boys, Girls), Volleyball (Girls), Cross-country (Boys, Girls), Track (Boys, Girls) and Wrestling (Boys, Girls).
Due to the small school size, there is generally no need to qualify for any of the sports, as cutoffs would be meaningless and there is simply not a large enough applicant pool to allow cuts. However, in recent years higher demand has led to cuts in both cheerleading, basketball, and girl's soccer. While this allows for a large percentage of the student body to participate (an estimated 85% of students are involved in athletics), some teams are less successful than at larger, more competitive schools.
Despite being the smallest football playing school in DoDDS Europe, the Mustangs have been extremely competitive during the 2009 season. As of 31 October, they are (5-0),[1] defeating the Rota Admirals three times (including once by forfeit), the Brussels Brigands, the Alconbury Dragons, and the Sigonella Jaguars.
The Mustangs went to compete for the Division 3 European Championships[2] in Baumholder, Germany on November 7. Their opponent was Alconbury. But losing to the Alconbury 31-13
The Lady Mustang volleyball team led by Captains Julie Fouse, and Donna Shorkey have had a very progressive season. Junior Monique McCreary was a threatening force on the front row.
The National Junior Honor Society and National Honor Society are both available to middle or high school students. There were four students in NHS for the 2009 school year and twelve in NJHS.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is available at MHS. It requires commitment in volunteering, physical fitness, skills and expeditions, with an added stipulation of residential work for those competing for the top tier. Three tiers are available: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Several middle and high school students are currently working on pursuing DofE awards.
There are three student governments at MHS: elementary, middle and high school. There is also an overarching student council responsible for the wellbeing of the entire school. For the middle and high school, each class elects a president and vice president. The high school student government is responsible for fundraising, planning for and coordinating dances, Spirit Week, Prom, and the commencement ceremony, traditionally held at Fountains Abbey in Ripon.
Menwith Hill has approximately 260 Students throughout grades K-12.
